耳を澄まして聞くの語源、アッカド語由来の表現

注意して聞こうと思う時に、どうして
耳を「suma＝澄」して「聞く」と言う
のでしょうか。この表現はアッカド語
の「shamu＝shemu＝聞く」の変化形
と推測されます。
